Course Outline

This course provides a comprehensive overview of ASME B 31.3 and the minimum requirements of this internationally recognised standard. Delivered over three days, participants explore the requirements for design basis and calculations, material selection, Fabrication-Assembly-Erection and Testing-Inspection, along with other supplementary requirements for safe, sustainable and reliable design in Process Piping.
On completion of this course, participants can expect to:

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of ASME B 31.3 scope, content/coverage, exclusions and designer’s responsibilities
  • Identify and apply critical design parameters
  • Classify the fluid service and apply the minimum design requirements for each
  • Perform the principle design calculations including: wall thickness, flange rating, branch calculation, mitres, blank thickness and other necessary calculations for pressure piping in a process plant
  • Achieve a professional view of minimum requirements for material selection (from a mechanical point of view)
  • Understand the fundamentals of flexibility and stress analysis
  • Identify the minimum requirements for fabrication, assembly and erection of piping systems
  • Identify the minimum requirements for examination, inspection and testing of piping systems

There are no prerequisites for this course.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This is an advanced course, intended for electrical workers, technicians, engineers and senior engineers involved in the classification of potentially explosive atmospheres and the planning and design of electrical systems and installations in or associated with hazardous areas.
